It felt a bit like autumn was drifting into winter this lunchtime, but there was beautiful sunshine and the pond had thawed, which meant that the children could set apart fishing leaves out of the pond.  We left them at the side so that any creatures that hadn’t gone into hibernation could go back to the bottom. After that, the children gave all our fruit trees a leaf blanket as a mulch over the winter to suppress weeds in the spring and keep the moisture in. There were loads of buds all over them. For the end of the session, the children sat on the story stumps and created a story that involved different predators in the natural world, but all ended up happy ever after.
